Write a recipe credit note that keeps the person's story attached
Distinguish who taught you, what you changed and what you still need to ask.

When passing on a recipe learned from someone you know, a short credit note can preserve more than a name. Write what the person contributed: ‘Marta showed me how she shapes these rolls.’ That is more precise than calling every adapted dish an unchanged family original.

Name the contribution precisely
Keep the recipe instructions and the personal story distinct. In one margin, note your changes, such as a different pan or serving size. In another, record a memory you have permission to share. Do not present your own interpretation as the contributor's exact words.
Ask about uncertain details while you still can. If a handwritten note names an ingredient differently from the version you remember, preserve the uncertainty and ask rather than silently correcting it. A missing explanation can remain a question until someone with direct knowledge answers it.

A meaning to make your own
A thought to give
For a thank-you, name the meal or technique you appreciated. A love-themed gift can support that message, but it should not replace asking how the recipe may be shared.
Make a gift cardOne more question
What if I cannot identify the original source?
Say what you do know, such as who gave you the handwritten copy. Do not invent an origin or attach a relative's name merely to make the story feel complete.
A character to carry with you 愛
愛 means love. In a recipe note, care can appear through accurate credit and respect for another person's boundaries, rather than through a sentimental story invented on their behalf.
